2021 VVMTA Trail Survey Results

Thank you to the 300 members of our community who completed our 2021 survey!

Your feedback informs our direction on what projects and programs we should prioritize moving forward. We will use your feedback to inform our land managers and decision makers on what the trails community wants to see and prioritize.

Thank you for letting us know how we are doing, both successfully and how we can better serve you, our trails community.

Please read through the full survey results yourself to best understand the collective response and feedback we received.  Below are some high level points that we have taken away from it:

Question:  How do you recreate on trails?

  • Mountain biking is the highest priority use from the respondent audience (74%)
  • Hiking had the highest weighted average (2.58 hiking vs. 2.51 mountain biking)

Question: What type of trail(s) experience do you want in Eagle County?

  • Respondents desire more challenging and technical trail experiences
  • High desire for connectors to create more comprehensive trail systems

Question: What is your favorite trail in Eagle County?

  • Meadow Mountain trail system rose to the top which includes Everkrisp and Whiskey Creek

Question:  Are you aware of Seasonal Wildlife Closures, why they exist, where, and when?

  • A whopping 93% of respondents said “Yes” (woohoo)!  With 6% somewhat familiar and only 1% answering “No”

Question:  Rank the importance of VVMTA’s main initiatives to you.

  • The community relies on us to advocate (4.35) for an improved trail system which includes building (4.23) and maintaining trails (4.10)
  • Great to see the community’s desire for our initiative to balance conservation and recreation (3.90)

Question: If not already a VVMTA supporter, how likely are you to join/donate to our organization?

  • A majority of respondents (80%) are somewhat likely, likely, or very likely to financially support the VVMTA

Question:  In your words, what could the VVMTA do to improve your likelihood of supporting our organization?

  • Common themes:  Communication, New technical trails, and no changes to existing trails

Question:  What would encourage you to participate in volunteer trail days?

  • Create and communicate a schedule that is set for the entire summer or at a minimum monthly basis (3.72)
  • New trail build opportunities for volunteers was a close second in weighted average (3.70)

Question:  In your opinion, what does VVMTA do really well?

  • Common themes:  Advocacy, Community, Maintenance, Volunteerism, Trail Building

Question:  In your opinion what does VVMTA need to improve upon?

  • Common themes: Communication, Trail style/diversity, Natural/Technical trails

Question:  Overall, how satisfied or dissatisfied are you with the VVMTA?

  • We sure are glad we are doing some good for our community!  78% of respondents are satisfied or very satisfied with only 6% being dissatisfied or very dissatisfied

Question:  What are you most satisfied with our current trail opportunities in Eagle County?

  • Common themes:  Access, Variety, New trails, Improved trails

Question:  What are you least satisfied with our current trail opportunities in Eagle County?

  • Common themes: Lack of technical/natural trails, Overuse/crowding, Lack of beginner trails

Question:  What topics would you like to hear more about from the VVMTA?

  • Trail projects (new, maintenance, etc.) are by far what the respondents want to hear about (80%)
  • We hope to up our trail condition communication this year as this was the second priority (61%)
