Love your local trails? Turn that love into action by joining VVMTA’s Adopt a Trail program! We’re looking for teams to help care for and steward Eagle County’s incredible trail system.
What is Adopt a Trail?
Launched in 2016, the Adopt a Trail (AAT) program is a community-driven stewardship initiative where local groups adopt a specific trail to maintain and support throughout the year. Since its start, AAT has grown to maintain 50+ trails across Eagle County — and we’re looking to add more.
As an Adopt a Trail team, you and your group commit to completing 2–3 trail work events per season on your chosen trail. These events are fun opportunities to connect with nature, contribute to the community, and experience your favorite trail in a new way.
What Teams Do:
This doesn’t require you to be a professional trail builder — just enthusiastic and ready to pitch in. Typical activities include:
Clearing debris, trimming brush, and managing overgrowth
Improving drainage to protect trail sustainability
- Restoring trail tread and maintaining trail surface
No experience is necessary. VVMTA partners with teams to provide direction and support.
Why Volunteer?
Being part of AAT is rewarding in more ways than one:
1. Make a Visible Impact
Your hands help shape the trails you love, improving experiences for everyone who uses them.
2. Connect with Nature and People
Trail work days are social, purposeful, and a great way to meet others who share your passion for the outdoors.
3. Learn New Skills
Whether you’re new to trail maintenance or a seasoned volunteer, you’ll learn and grow with each event.
4. Build Pride in Your Community
Knowing you’ve helped care for trails means never looking at them the same way — that sense of ownership and pride is powerful.
Who Can Join?
We’d love to help you find a trail that fits your interests and group!
